Booking Hotels

Booking hotels may seem a big bother to some people, what with all the choices and alternatives the market is awash with, but this need not be so. Keep a handy checklist when booking hotels and it might give you a little more direction when you go searching for suitable accommodation.

If you think you have found a hotel you may like, visit its website. Go to the gallery and view as many pictures of the inside and outside as possible. You can get a fair idea of the general appearance and room décor.

You could also visit the websites where hotels are reviewed – you are bound to come up with a few websites if you type “hotel reviews” in a search engine. People tell of their own experiences on these websites and this could give an interesting insight. You may ignore a few bad reviews from over-critical people, but if the reviews are bad on average, avoid the hotel.

You might also find that your choice is made easier by the availability of certain amenities that you might not be willing to compromise on. Examples are air conditioning and heaters, kitchen appliances, Internet access and even an airport shuttle services. You might require shops within walking distance or a swimming pool for the children’s entertainment. Some hotels even offer smoke-free rooms for non-smokers and this might be an important consideration if you have a sensitive nose.

Lest we forget price, be sure what the different types of rooms cost. A more basic hotel may redeem itself with very reasonable rates; combined with a couple of the amenities that you would appreciate, it might sway you. Frequently, hotels’ rates differ from peak and off-peak season and this might be worth keeping in mind. A hotel that is expensive in peak season may be very reasonable next time you are in the vicinity in off-peak season.
