Nowadays, it might be impossible to get married for much less than R100 000, so you need to be fastidious in the selection of your wedding reception venue. For such a large capital outlay, one has to go the extra mile to ensure that the day holds no disappointments. In order to select the appropriate venue, keep a few important points in mind:
You need to match the number of guests with the venue. Obviously, the venue should allow for the number of guests you intend to invite. Some venues are meant for intimate gatherings and might not be able to accommodate more than fifty or sixty people. Large venues might have a lower limit on the number of people – many venues would not accept booking for fewer than 80 or 100 people. These figures may be negotiable.
Ideally, a wedding reception venue should not be too far away from the ceremony site or chapel, so that guests would not have to travel too far to get there. It would also minimise the chances of people from out of town getting lost.
Many wedding reception venues have their own caterers which would be able to cater to your requirements. You usually have to choose from menu packages that carry different price tags. If your venue does not have its own caterer, you would have to arrange that separately. Often, the venue would supply the drinks and you might not be allowed to source the liquor yourself.
If your wedding reception venue is at a hotel, you might want to enquire about accommodation for the guests who have to sleep over. If there are many people in need of accommodation on the day, you might be able to secure special rates for them in the hotel. This has as an added bonus the fact that these guests would not have to travel after the reception.
